Civil Rights And The March On Washington
Throughout his life, Whitney, Jr., maintained a prominent role in the civil rights movement. One of the most important dates toward achieving equality was the March on Washington on August 28, 1963. Although Whitney, Jr., may not receive as much notoriety as civil rights activists such as Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr., or Rosa Parks, he was a very instrumental in organizing the march. On the 50th anniversary of the march on Washington, the United States’ first lady, Michelle Obama, honored him for his contributions and as an organizer for the march on Washington (First Lady Honors).
